A new type of media that can be created is a virtual reality MMORPG (massively multiplayer online role-playing game). These are role-playing games where a massive amount of people can play at the same time. While there are some online games that can support virtual reality, a new type of media would be an MMORPG where you can truly immerse yourself into the video game- where you can interact with the world in the game as if you were really there. You wouldn't need to use a controller at all, all you have to do is move as you normally would in real life. In this sense, it is as if you were transported into another world and you have the option to explore. While this level of immersion isn't currently possible, it is fun to think about. This type of technology can create a new level of immersion and interactivity not currently present in online games. while online games have the limitless potential of what you can do, its level of immersion is not. all you have to do is look away

Wiki So Far

I haven't added anything to the Wiki yet, but I'm doing some research in order to add content to the gaming portion of the wiki. One aspect of the wiki that seems to be lacking is the different types of video game genres. This is important to note because the variety of genres for video games are one of the few features that make them great- there is a little bit of everything for everybody.  The type of console or computers used to play games can limit or affect the type of games seen for that console. For example, some "Meta" games (games that interact with the user, knowing they are a game and that user is a player)  can only be played on pc, since the certain aspect of the game requires you to alter game files or setting on your computer. This access is severely limiting on the consoles as these companies don't want people hacking or altering the software. Another portion I want to add to the wiki is influential video games in each genre. Every genre grows a

P2P

File sharing is the act of sharing digital information through the internet. This can be ebooks, videos, pictures, documents, and computer programs. One version of file sharing is P2P. P2P file sharing is the process of sharing digital content through a direct connection between two peers or nodes over a network. Users can use software programs to search for other computers that have files to download. One example of P2P file sharing can be seen in the article "Digital Pirates Winning Battle With Studios" when Warner Brothers attempt to stop piracy of the movie The Dark Knight ended in failure. Through popular P2P file sharing sites (for example BitTorrent), the movie has been downloaded over 7 Million times. This makes a P2P filing sharing a very important issue, as these companies are losing a lot of revenue and advertisers from this practice. While these companies try their best to combat piracy, they are still losing the fight as the internet makes piracy a whole lot easi

Privacy

It's hard to keep anything private in today's society. With the advancement in technology, a lot of concern has been raised on users privacy. We give a lot of personal information away to big tech companies like Google and Facebook. Apps even ask for access to certain functions and data. These companies have a wealth of information not just about our habit online, but of our personal lives as well. This information is sold off to other companies so they can market their products to the users. This data can create a profile of the user's habits and personality which can be used in marketing campaigns. Sometimes, this information is leaked. Facebook has multiple leaks and breaches of their data, which contains a lot of personal information. Almost nothing will be confidential either. Mark Zuckerberg own family had trouble making their pictures private. As technology gets elaborate, there will be people who are unable to keep things private or confidential.  There will also be

Blog: Advice

The advice I would give to Baruch is to increase their efforts on social media. While they are active on social media, they often make posts about events, opportunities, or accomplishments from other members of the Baruch community. My suggestion is to create posts to increase engagements from their followers, such as making a post that asks their followers to share their experience on a certain topic. It could also be a contest- the first follower to solve a riddle gets a prize. They could also be invited to engage with them in an event on campus. I also see that we get more important updates from newsletters or emails sent to us. They could potentially add a view of these updates to their social media accounts, as a lot of people would see the updates on social media than in their email. Also, Baruch has more than 100 clubs on campus- increasing the focus and attention of these clubs and the events they host would help build a stronger and more engaged community. By displaying the cl

Creativity and New Media

For this, I will talk about a Instagram account my group and I are monitoring for another class. The point of our project is to upload content, monitoring the page and collect data about our progress to present at the end of the class. For me, I am not really active on social media, that is to say I don't post anything or comment publicly- I prefer to live in peace. For me it was new experience, especially since it was a collaborative effort in making this page. Since we decided to become a food and travel Instagram page, I made post regarding nice places to eat that have aesthetically pleasing looking food. I like to eat at new and exciting places, but I never really share my experience with anyone. It was certainly a lot of fun and I enjoyed doing my posts, though I'd admit I was nervous doing them for the first time (and certainly there were too many filters to choose from). My first post was a pic of this cute creamart coffee I had a while back, as I thought it was somethin

HW Creativity

New Media (for example YouTube) as a platform gives a lot of potential for a creator to foster and explore their own creativity. They can upload videos and make content on virtually any topic they want ( Within reason of course). They can upload make up tutorials, or create short films. While new media allows this type of content to flourish, these content can exist without the support of those platforms. Both can break out into their industry with other means. Its the birth of different type of content , such as gaming and parody channels, that really show how New Media foster creativity. As shown in the article "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?" by Brooks Barnes, parody videos can thrive and grow on a platform such as YouTube. With new digital and editing software available, any creator can edit or create content so long as it falls under fair use. With YouTube acting as a medium, content can be shared and grown, allowing creators with new ideas to
